Nathan Grammer Racing at the NZIGP, Hampton Downs

The NZIGP weekend at Hampton Downs delivered fast, smooth running across both kart and car. We started the day in the Superkart NZ category with our Energy Corse NZ crew, and they had the kart genuinely race-ready from the moment we rolled out, settled, responsive, and quick. A 1:14.000 flat on the national track became our standout lap of the weekend and a strong marker for where our pace is heading.
From there, we switched over to running with GTRNZ in the ENERGY TR86 with Mackenzie Motorsport, who once again had the car feeling mint. A breakout time in practice meant we moved from GT4 into the GT3 group. Our own pace didn’t change much, but the pace around us certainly lifted in GT3, bringing a sharper edge to the sessions and keeping the racing dynamic throughout the day.
Racing was disrupted by yellow and red flags, with multiple restarts stopping anyone from finding much flow. After three red-flag restarts, we ended up starting from the front and held position to take P1 under safety car. It wasn’t the traditional finish, but still a rewarding result to carry forward.
The day wrapped up earlier than expected after a medical incident in the TA2 class. We’re relieved to share that the driver is recovering well. It was a moment that brought the paddock to a standstill and a reminder of how quickly things can take a turn for the unexpected. We wish the driver a strong recovery and do hope to see him back doing what he loves.
Weekend Takeaways
Our Energy Corse kart pace was on point with a 1:14. Might have to bolt some fairing on next time and the see how the pace is.
GT3 lifted the intensity around us, adding good energy to the racing. Energy Corse NZ and Mackenzie Motorsport had us well prepared across both categories.
With NZIGP complete, we turn our focus to the 2026 season with confidence and momentum. A huge thank you to Energy Corse NZ for the race-ready kart, Mackenzie Motorsport for a flawless TR86 setup, and everyone at Hampton Downs.
We race because we love it.
We keep showing up because every lap brings something worth learning.
