Pole Position, Penalties and a Fight Back Through the Field

What a weekend.

Saturday wasn't our strongest day. I'm not sure the short club circuit suited me after doing so many laps on the full international track at Taupō. The tighter layout had good flow, but I think it would have been even more enjoyable with a kerb or two thrown into the mix.

Sunday started much better with a wet-to-dry qualifying session where we had awesome pace and secured pole position. It was a Mackenzie Motorsport front row lockout.

Unfortunately, Race 1 didn't quite go our way. I struggled to get grip off the start and watched a few cars fly past while I searched for traction. From there, I fought my way back through the field and had a great battle with Boswell, with the position changing hands a couple of times before eventually bringing it home in third place and setting the fastest lap of Race 1.

We were later handed two five-second penalties, which wasn't the result we were hoping for, but that's racing sometimes.

The penalties dropped us back to seventh, which meant starting the final race from P7 with the reverse top-five format. We worked our way back through the field to finish P3 and looked to have claimed fastest lap again, until Scolesy put together an impressive lap to take that honour. Even more impressive was the fact he managed it without a rear bumper attached.

A massive congratulations to my teammate Nieko Scoles on a strong win in Race 1. Sunday was a great day for Mackenzie Motorsport, with strong drives and fastest laps from both sides of the garage.

A huge thank you to the entire team at Mackenzie Motorsport for all the hard work that goes in behind the scenes each weekend. The preparation, support and commitment from everyone involved is a big part of what allows us to keep progressing.
